RE: Family RCIA – Sacraments

Dear Parents,

Now that you and your child(ren) are settled into the rhythm and environment of liturgy and formation at St. James, it’s time to take a look at what your family may have missed in previous years of formal faith development. Please note: the Church recommends that children complete at least one year of faith formation prior to preparing for any Sacrament. To accomplish this, St. James has designed special family sessions so as to share the foundational elements of our Catholic faith and Christian life.

The parish’s role is to help parents prepare their children to “live” the Sacraments … not simply to receive them on a scheduled day. To achieve this, parents and children should have a basic understanding of the four pillars of our Catholic faith: 1) Profession of Faith: our Catholic beliefs, 2) Celebration of the Christian Mystery: our Catholic Church and her sacraments and liturgy, 3) Life in Christ: our Christian values and responsibilities, and 4) Prayer.

Once a month parents and children will meet with a Family RCIA catechist. The format of these sessions will be: instruction, discussion, and question and answer. Resources will be handed out each month for families to work on at home. Regular participation in the Mass is an integral part of your formation process.

A parent orientation meeting about Family RCIA is being held:

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25th from 11:15am-12noon in Room 317

Please make every effort to attend. If you’re unable to join us, please call or email Beth to schedule an appointment to meet.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Beth LeAnnais Cathy Khoury
