Are you looking for …
· Support in nurturing the spirituality of your teen or preteen?
· A place where each person, young and not so young, is affirmed and treated as a child of God?
· A safe environment that fosters a sense of Christian family?
· A community of caring adults that walk the journey of faith with young people and parents?
Then LOGOS is the place for your family … there’s nothing like it anywhere! It is the finest model of Catholic-Christian youth ministry for families available today. It is a place where faith is caught and taught … where relationships with Christ and one another, the body of Christ, are developed and deepened.
What is Logos?
Logos is a model of comprehensive youth ministry recognized by the diocese. St. James begins its 24th year in September 2010 and ministers to youth in grades 7th–12th.
The Name: The name “Logos” comes from the biblical text in John 1:1-14: “In the beginning was the Word … and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” Christ is at the center of all we do!
The Model: The model of Logos has four parts and is patterned after Acts 2:42: “They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles (catechesis) and to the communal life (recreation and apostolate/service ministries), to the breaking of bread (shared meal), and to the prayers (worship and liturgical ministries).”
Middle and high school youth are combined during recreation, communal prayer and the family-style dinnertime. Catechesis is separated by grade level. The apostolate is separated into junior and senior high groups. Preparing for Confirmation is a 2-year journey, beginning in 9th grade, and celebrating the sacrament in 10th grade.
Logos is intentionally situated mid-week on Wednesday to bridge the time between weekend liturgies – the Mass being a priority in our Catholic life. The 3-hour time frame fosters a holistic approach to faith development, providing opportunities for the mind, body, and spirit to connect with God and to strengthen our holiness and wholeness.
Retreats, youth conferences, social and spiritual outings, and service are integral components to our youth ministry.
The Ministers: Our youth ministry core team consists of 20 adults and young adults. Parents serve in some capacity, often on a dinner team, where a great sense of camaraderie is established among them.
The Ministry: Our goal is to attend to the spiritual and social side of adolescents within an intergenerational community. We address the hungers of today’s young people:
The hunger for recognition
The hunger for meaning and purpose
The hunger for connection
The hunger for justice
The hunger for holiness
Through a partnership with parents and the parish community, we aim to satisfy those hungers.
We believe it takes a whole village (parish) to raise children … and we’re here for you! Please call us:
